Our Community We are located in Hartford at 90 Retreat Avenue across from Hartford Hospital’s Brown Stone Building and the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center. The Retreat is an affordably priced assisted-living community, one of the first of its kind in Connecticut and the United States. Our six-story building is specially designed for seniors 65 and older who need some assistance with daily living. Within our community we provide a warm, comfortable home for residents to enjoy their lives, in an urban setting, while receiving the care they need to remain out of a nursing home setting. The Retreat consists of 80 studio and 20 one-bedroom apartments. All units offer private bathrooms, well-equipped kitchenettes, individually controlled heat and air conditioning systems, 24-hour emergency response system, 24-hour security and wall-to-wall carpeting. All apartments are wheelchair accessible and some offer roll-in showers.
Your Community As a member of your community, you will have the freedom of participating in community events and programs as well as the use of several common areas within our building. At The Retreat, social, recreational and educational gatherings are the cornerstone of creating a community where we want to live. (link to mission and values) Therefore, in order for us to live our mission, we believe that our services and programs must be tailored to meet the specific interests and needs of our members. As a member of this community, we want you to be an active participant as we create a community where we want to live. From daily spontaneous activities to scheduled visits to local cultural sites, we help each other maintain an active, healthy and fulfilling lifestyle based on your interests and the interests of our neighbors. Here are just some areas of our building each member is welcome to enjoy our common areas: Living room with gas fireplace for quiet reading or for catching up with an old friend; Library with dozens of books to explore and computer stations for member use; Craft Room for creating special projects, crafts and “movie nights”; “Main Street” Café for fresh-baked goodies, homemade soups and coffee Community Room for larger gatherings and visits from local civic groups and guest speakers; Family Rooms on each “Avenue” (floor) with televisions, game tables and toy chests for when young ones visit; Private Dining Room for more intimate parties and celebrations; Outdoor Patio for summer barbeques and holiday parties.
Your Care Plan Our compassionate, experienced and responsive staff are specially trained to assist you once you move in to our community. A personal care plan is developed just for you, with the goal of offering you enough support to remain at independent as possible and avoid nursing home placement for as long as possible. Care plans are based on your current needs and adjusted as your needs may change. We coordinate your medical appointments, as well as make certain that you maintain your diet and take your medications as proscribed by your medical doctor. |
